No. Your team keeps working in Access the whole time. We only switch over at the final data migration, on a date you pick.
What happens to our VBA code?
It gets rewritten as clean, documented application code. Every function is mapped in the blueprint so nothing silently disappears.
Our database is split into a front end and a back end. Is that a problem?
No, it is normal. Send both files, or the front end plus your SQL Server details if the tables already live there.
We only have the compiled file (.accde) and the developer is gone.
Still solvable. I reconstruct the behavior from the running application and your team’s walkthrough. The blueprint prices this honestly.
Who owns the finished code?

Is Access being discontinued?
No, and I will not tell you otherwise. But support for Access 2016 and 2019 ended in October 2025, Microsoft’s own lifecycle schedule retires Access 2021 in October 2026, and the practical problems above do not wait for Microsoft.
